Your compilers can generally be set to output a log file for reporting errors and problems. Your IDE can launch the compiler and then read the log file generated during the compile, reporting back to the programmer, and even providing contextual advice based on the code, to which the IDE has direct access. Even QB45 can divert the command line output to a text file using the command line piping function. Y0u can even keep a running log by using the double GT insted of the single GT for the command line, which appends the text to the output file instead of creating a new one, and even append the time and date to the file just prior to calling the compiler.
