It's what you download when you get the SDK from Sun.com, so you can run Java apps on a virtual machine, such as Sun's WebStart or on your browser. If you have the java runtime, you can run a java program by typing in "java classname", where classname is a .class file without the extension.
I've never used a java compiler, but I understand there's one as part of MingW/GCC. Dunno on how to run it or anything. I can help you if you'd like to make regular java apps though (not .exe).
You want a hello world program or something? It usually helps to have a direction or a goal or something you'd like to eventually make with Java. Back to Programming Talk
